Wales may be a small country located on the southwest of Britain, but this little wonder has so much to offer you. It is well known for its rugged coastline, mountainous national parks, distinctive Welsh language and Celtic culture. Whether you are a city cruiser or a rural roller you will find the perfect place to call home.
Oh… what’s occurring? Well, lots wherever you find yourself. Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and has an abundance of things to see and do. From theatres, museums, castles, sporting grounds, eateries, shopping and history you won’t be in short supply of things to keep you busy. Even at night, the raving nightlife of diverse musical genres will see you into the wee hours.
However, we are very lucky to have so much more to explore than just our capital city. When you want to escape city life you will be spoilt for choice. The national parks of Snowdonia, Brecon beacons and Pembrokeshire will provide you with breath taking walks and views to blow away those cobwebs. In 2017, Lonely Planet named North Wales as a must visit region in the world. With its Adventure Parc Snowdonia you can be flying high on the world’s fastest seated zip line taking in the panoramic views of the lagoon and vast landscape. If that is a little too much adrenaline for some hiking is a must in all of our national parks with waterfalls, slate caverns and moss-covered magical forests waiting to be explored. In 2020, Wales was featured in LA times 20 great destinations to visit worldwide.
Wales is a country of passionate souls. From times where dragons and Kings wandered the landscapes, we are known for our warm and welcoming charm. We put everything into making the most of our little abode. This is seen through our long list of greats in all aspects of life from Singers, Writers and sports people. However, Aneurin Bevan the founding father of the National Health Service (NHS) has to be top of the list.

Wales Paediatric Deanery
Paediatrics in Wales is split into two deaneries, North and South. The North deanery encompasses both North Wales and Merseyside, England. The South Wales placements are located along the M4 corridor. Despite being split into two groups, we actively engage as a family to deliver amazing opportunities and develop paediatric skills. Associations such as WREN (Welsh Research and education Network) and AWEN (All Wales Wellness and Education Network) provide ample opportunity to share and develop new ideas within the paediatric sphere. Teaching is available every day in the Wales deanery and is centred around the key curriculum items. There are also plenty of deanery study days targeted at all levels of trainees in order to maximise your learning potential.
Our school of Paediatrics is committed to ensuring that Wales offers a high quality, curriculum driven, sustainable training programme with the aim of producing paediatricians of the highest calibre who will deliver the best possible care for children and their families. So not matter where you are placed, we look forward to welcoming you and nurturing your paediatric career.
